The US military has attacked a suspected drug-smuggling boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing three men in an operation on Thursday, the regional command said.

The vessel was reportedly being used for drug trafficking, based on intelligence information, and was travelling along a known drug-smuggling route in the eastern Pacific, the US Southern Command said on X.

"Three male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed."

Under orders from President Donald Trump's administration, the US military has repeatedly targeted vessels in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific as part of efforts to disrupt international drug-smuggling networks.

Critics have questioned whether such lethal operations in international waters are permissible under international law.
