US strikes three Iranian oil tankers in response to attacks on warships

US forces struck three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, September 5, after Iran fired ballistic missiles at two American warships, the US military said.

An aircraft carrier and destroyer evaded multiple attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with no personnel harmed, US Central Command said in a statement.

In retaliation, US forces permanently disabled two oil tankers and destroyed a third vessel, the M/T Kylo, near the Gulf of Oman.

The Kylo was not carrying oil and its crew was ordered to abandon ship before it was hit in multiple locations, US Central Command said.

Iranian media reported earlier that a tanker near Kharg Island had been struck and its crew evacuated. Iran’s Tasnim news agency said no casualties were reported in the incidents.
