US Vice President JD Vance announces a new book detailing his return to Catholicism, a personal narrative that follows his political rise.
WASHINGTON: US Vice President JD Vance announced the upcoming release of a book dedicated to his Catholic faith.
Titled “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” the book will go on sale on June 16.
“I’ve been writing this book for a long time, and I’m honored to finally be able to share the full story with you all,” Vance wrote on social media platform X.
The book’s description on Amazon states it is “picking up in some ways where ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ left off,” referring to his 2016 bestselling memoir.
It calls the new work “an intimate account of why Vice President JD Vance strayed from the Christianity of his youth and what led him back to faith.”
Vance converted to Catholicism in 2019 at the age of 35. He was briefly received by Pope Francis at the Vatican in April last year, hours before the pontiff’s death.
The vice president met the following month with the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, attending the first US-born pope’s inaugural mass.
Pope Francis had openly criticised Vance’s interpretation of Catholic doctrine to justify former President Donald Trump’s harsh anti-immigration policies.
Before his election, Pope Leo XIV had also reposted writings disapproving of Vance’s positions.
Vance recently drew criticism for publicly expressing hope that his wife Usha Vance, who was raised Hindu, would convert to Christianity.
The vice president is considered a potential contender to succeed President Donald Trump.
