How a handphone may help you earn extra income on polling day: snap a photo of your ballot slip and collect money on your way out! #GE15

There's an easy way to make money on polling day that Tun Mahathir said he discovered in the 2018 election.

Apparently, Tun Mahathir said voters were told that they could claim RM100 to RM200 after they provide proof of their vote for a certain candidate.

One of the ways a voter may earn is to snap a photo of the ballot slip with a mobile phone and show it to a party representative and collect cash when you exit the polling station. So, easy right?

As a result, Tun M said voters should not be allowed to bring their handphones when they are casting their votes, "because those offering bribes for votes will require a voter to take a picture of their inked finger and ballot slip with their handphones as proof that they voted for their party."

Ban handphone use at polling booths

He said that innocent voters from the lower-income group in desperate need of money would fall prey to such a scheme, unaware that they might be involved in illegal activity.

Later, ghost writers on Najib's facebook lambasted Tun Mahathir's comments by saying, "Phones with cameras have been around for over 20 years. When PH won GE14, the device had also existed. Why (is it) when Tun M was the PM7 (7th Prime Minister), he did not ban it?"

But these UMNO cybertroopers forget that in 2018 public opinion was so skewed against BN-UMNO that the party led by Tun Mahathir then did not have to resort to vote buying.

In any case, the pressure to win this time around is equal for every party in the race to Putrajaya and only ethics would prevent any particular coalition from resorting to illegal means like bribery and gerrymandering.

So if you were thinking of making extra money on November 19, forget it. Tun Mahathir and others know about this scheme and they would be on the lookout for would be bribe takers and corrupt politicians.
