Ramadan bazaars and the wide array of food and drink available are definitely one of the highlights of the Holy month of Ramadan.
However, with an abundance of food, comes a risk of a lot of wastage. Fortunately, such issues are being tackled at one of the most popular bazaars in Klang Valley, which is the USJ4 Ramadan bazaar.
Subang assemblyman Michelle Ng recently took to her Twitter to share some of the environmentally friendly initatives they have introduced at USJ4’s bazaar.
In the video, Ng shared that one of the initiatives is the collection of used oil programme organised by the Subang Jaya city council. Vendors of the bazaar can go on to dispose of their used oil with the bins provided by the city council.
The second and third initiatives are the bring your own tupperware programme, and the no Styrofoam guideline. These would help to reduce the amount of plastics being used at the bazaar.
And the fourth is an initiative to rescue excess food and donate them via What a Waste Malaysia, a platform built to reduce the amount of good food that gets thrown away.
The environmentally friendly initiatives have since been praised by members of the public who urged other Ramadan bazaars to implement similar initiatives.
“We need more of these initiatives throughout all bazaars in Malaysia.”
“Very good initative, especially the one for excessive food rescue. We waste too much food during Ramadan,” commented a user.
