Valencia defender Gabriel Paulista has apologised for his dismissal in defeat to Real Madrid last night.

Paulista was sent off for a wild kick at Vinicius Junior midway through the second-half, with his actions sparking an all-in brawl.

He said this morning: "I accept the criticism and the red card, I'm not proud. I'm a forceful player, but a noble one.

"I respect Vinicius and it was never my intention to hurt him.

"We are suffering a lot in this great club, experiencing a very difficult situation and feelings are on the surface. Sometimes it is difficult to control my nerves. I did not control them and I apologise from the bottom of my heart. Sorry fans.

"We will continue fighting until the end to reverse this situation. No one doubts us."
