Various aid for the poor reflects government’s concern

KENINGAU: Deputy Chief Minister 1, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has called on the people to continue to support the current leadership of the Sabah Government in driving the economic growth.

He said through this support, the government led by the Chief Minister can provide assistance to target groups in line with the objective and direction of Sabah Maju Jaya.

“If the Sabah Government’s revenue increases, assistance to the people will also increase,” he said, when officiating the Sentuhan Kasih and Madani Rahmah Sales Programnme for Keningau Parliamentary held at Dato Angian Andulag hall in Apin-Apin, here, recently.

Dr Jeffrey, who is also Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, said the Sabah Government is very concerned about the welfare of the people and this was reflected in the 2025 Budget which was tabled in the Sabah Legislative Assembly on Nov 15.

Read more Among the assistance are Sentuhan Kasih Rakyat aimed at helping the poor and hardcore poor, one-off assistance for stall petty traders, civil servant bonuses, IPT Registration Cash Assistance (BUDI) for degree and diploma or matriculation levels.

“For the poor and hardcore poor, the government has agreed to provide assistance of RM300 per month for a period of one year while one-off assistance of RM5,000 is given to roadside stall petty traders who have a valid business licence.

“In addition, all civil servants in Sabah will receive a one-month salary bonus with a minimum payment of RM3,000, one-off IPT Registration cash assistance (BUDI) for students who will pursue their studies at the degree level of RM2,000 while for the Diploma and Matriculation levels of RM1,500,” he said.

He said the government’s desire is to see the people of Sabah being assisted in an uncertain economic climate in addition to the high cost of living caused by the current increase in the price of goods.

Dr Jeffrey, who is also Keningau Member of Parliament, hopes that through this government assistance, it can have a positive impact in addressing the high cost of living as well as being able to ease the burden of the people.

He also thanked the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for also going to the field to support the people in the Interior area, especially the Keningau Parliamentary constituency.
