Legal reps for Real Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir have hit back at his former agent Jean-Pierre Berns.

Bernes claimed last week that Fekir's move from Lyon to Liverpool fell through due to the behaviour of family members.

But lawyer Antoine Landon released a statement to L'Equipe, insisting: "Nabil Fekir is dismayed by Jean-Pierre Berns' untruthful comments in his interview, which seriously tarnish him and his family.

"With regard to the aborted transfer to Liverpool, Nabil Fekir was warned only the night before that a signing meeting was to take place the next day. He did not have any information about the contracts. Only a notebook sheet written on a corner of the table had been sent to him. Because of this total lack of preparation, he wanted lawyers and a trusted third party to be present.

"At no time did Nabil Fekir's advise to renegotiate the financial terms with Liverpool, much less ask them to 'stop everything'. The exchanges took place in a serene atmosphere between professionals. Nabil's brother-in-law, present as a trusted third party, had no exchange with the club representatives. To pretend that he was there as a 'player agent' to take 'a commission' is false and defamatory.

"Nabil Fekir did not wish to continue his relationship with Jean-Pierre Berns at the end of the contract, in April 2019, which is his strictest right."
