Venture into black pepper planting, Ewon urges farmers

KOTA BELUD: Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick is encouraging more farmers in the Kota Belud district, especially in Kadamaian, to venture into black pepper farming as a business, citing the extensive market and the guaranteed returns for entrepreneurs in the sector.

To support local farmers, Ewon, who is also Kadamaian Assemblyman, contributed 600 black pepper seedlings to 30 participants of the Black Pepper Farming Course, marking his commitment to further developing the crop in the area.

Advertisement“I hope this will be the beginning for farmers to expand their black pepper cultivation in the future,” he said in a statement after handing over the seedlings to participants, Monday.

Kota Belud Black Pepper Growers and Entrepreneurs Association Chairman Janus Tioon expressed gratitude for the donation, saying it would encourage Kadamaian farmers to begin and eventually scale up their black pepper farming.

One of the course participants and recipients of the seedlings, Nani Sikin from Kampung Piasau, said this would be his first experience growing black pepper and hopes that it will mark the start of a more extensive black pepper business in the future.

Arnie Soluin from Kampung Tambulion also expressed her desire to grow black pepper and plans to encourage other farmers to join her in the venture.
