Vernon Kay delivers on-air tribute to Trevor Nelson after iconic DJ steps back amid ‘health issues’

Vernon Kay paid tribute to Trevor Nelson live on air after the legendary radio DJ announced he was stepping back from his BBC Radio 2 show due to “health issues”.

The 62-year-old has been absent from his regular slot after undergoing tests for an undisclosed illness.

In an Instagram post on Friday (26 June), Nelson said he is taking a break to “concentrate on getting better, being back to 100 per cent me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks”.

Addressing the news, Kay heaped praise on his colleague, who he called a “stalwart broadcaster”.

“Everyone at BBC Radio 2, including the mid-morning show, are sending Trevor all the very very best wishes, we absolutely love him to bits.”
