THE Special Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session that is rumoured to be held on June 24 is most likely related to the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly.
However, Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament, Hassan Abdul Karim, said this will only happen if Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, has informed the palace of his intention and obtained its approval.
"The Sultan of Johor must be notified of the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly in advance, on or before June 24.
"The Menteri Besar is responsible for advising the Sultan of Johor to obtain approval for the dissolution. It is not certain whether this has been done.
“If the Sultan agrees, then it is appropriate for the State Assembly to submit a motion to dissolve the Johor State Assembly in its session on June 24," he said when contacted by Berita Harian today.
He said, as is well known, the Johor State Assembly term will only expire in 2027.
"There is a high possibility that if there is a Special Johor State Assembly Session on June 24, the agenda or business of the session may be about dissolving the assembly,” he said.
Earlier, Hassan was asked to comment on the dissemination of a message displaying an advanced notice to all Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen to 'lock' the date of June 24 due to the expected Special State Assembly Session.
Hassan also stated that he had not yet received any message or invitation regarding the matter. – May 21, 2026
