
TAMBUNAN: The Vet-Nam team from Nambayan and BSW Toboh emerged as champions for the Men’s Veteran and Women’s category of the Tambunan State Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan Cup Football Tournament held at the Sports Complex here.
The Vet-Nam and BSW Toboh teams each brought home prizes of trophy, medals and cash of RM5,555 each.
The second and third places in the men’s veteran category were won by the Sunsuron and Lintuhun Vet teams, each taking home a trophy, medal and RM2,500 and RM1,500 while fourth placed GMP Vet brought home a trophy, medal and RM1,000.
In second and third spots in the women’s category were New Generation Lintuhun and Tanaki FC Nambayan with each taking home a trophy, medal, RM2,500 and RM1,500 cash while the fourth and fifth places respectively were won by Orait FC Lintuhun and GMP FT Patau who brought home trophy, medals and cash of RM1,000 and RM500 each.

Read more Top scorer in the men’s veteran category was Balasius Gadong, Lintuhun Vet was selected as the best team, best goalkeeper Jinisius Osin @ Lai (Lintuhun Vet) and best player Jerry Apau (Vet-Nam) with each receiving a trophy and RM200.
Meanwhile, the top scorer in the women’s category was Nurhafizah Raynold, Tanaki FC the best team, the best goalkeeper Priska and the best player Sazlina both from New Generation Lintuhun with each receiving a trophy and RM200 each.
A total of eight men veteran teams and five women teams participated in the tournament jointly organised by Safa Tambunan and the Tambunan People’s Representative Office.
The tournament’s closing ceremony was performed by the Public Relations Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Justin Yonsoding representing Deputy Chief Minister I and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
The chairman of the organiser, who is also the Deputy Head of Exco Wiramuda Star Sabah, Prem Beachile Kitingan said that the tournament was held for the first time and the response from the veteran and women category teams representing the districts was very encouraging.
He said, in addition to watching the matches of the competing teams, the public also had the opportunity to win attractive prizes in the form of basic necessities including rice through a lucky draw.
All the prizes were presented by Prem.
Also present at the tournament were Safa Tambunan Chairman Jackson Tegua, Keningau Parliament Special Development Officer Saldivilla Wences, Tambunan Community Development Officer Terence Yong and other government officers and community leaders.
