Veteran actor and singer Jalil Hamid died at 12.30 pm today at his residence in Shah Alam. He was 69.
His daughter Afiqah Jalil said her father died in his sleep.
“After Subuh prayers, he went back to sleep… and then he was gone. He had a heart condition,” she said when contacted today.
He will be laid to rest after Asar prayers at the Section 21 Muslim Cemetery, Shah Alam.

Jalil had been active in the entertainment industry for more than 40 years. He was known as a versatile artiste, including as a comedian, as well as for his roles in films and dramas that resonated with local audiences, reported Bernama.
Among his notable works were the songs Ayam and Raya, the films Baginda and Zombi Kampung Pisang… and several local dramas.
Condolences and sincere respect
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his condolences on the passing of veteran actor and singer Jalil today.
He described Jalil as a figure who made significant contributions to the local arts scene, adding that his passing is a great loss to the nation’s creative industry.
“His services and legacy will always be remembered. My condolences to the entire family of the late Jalil.
“May they be granted strength and fortitude in facing this difficult time,” he said in a Facebook post.

On the other hand, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil described the passing of veteran actor Jalil as the loss of yet another gem of the local entertainment industry.
He said all the late actor’s contributions, service and sacrifices will always be remembered.
“The late Jalil Hamid was an artiste well known in the world of acting and singing for more than four decades.
“He was a unique entertainer with his own distinctive style and talent,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Fahmi also extended his condolences to the late actor’s family members, friends and colleagues.
“May they be given strength and patience in facing this loss. Let us all pray that his soul will be blessed and placed among the faithful. Al-Fatihah,” he said
Meanwhile, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu also conveyed his condolences to the late actor’s family and described his passing as a great loss to the country’s entertainment industry.
He said the late actor’s contributions will continue to be remembered by the public.
“His passing is a great loss, not only to his family but also to the country, which has long benefited from his talent and contributions.
“The legacy and memories he leaves behind will surely live on in all of us,” he said in a Facebook post.
Mohamad also prayed that the late actor’s soul would be blessed, his sins forgiven, and that he would be placed among the righteous.
