MANILA, Philippines — Veteran actress Odette Khan remains hospitalized as her family appeals for financial assistance to help cover mounting medical expenses.
According to a statement shared by her daughter, Claudette Avelino-Tandoc on Saturday, Khan has been confined and bedridden at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute since Feb. 21. She is being treated for pneumonia, emphysema and edema. Fluid was also drained from her right lung earlier this week.
As of Feb. 27, the hospital bill has reached more than P211,000, excluding professional and readers’ fees, caregiving expenses and medicines, the family said. Treatment is ongoing.
“We are running out of funds. My mother has served the film and television community with all her heart for over five decades. If she has touched you in any way and you are capable and willing to donate, we would deeply appreciate it,” Avelino-Tandoc said in a statement as shared by “Bar Boys: After School” official social media pages.
Her last project “Bar Boys: After School” was the sequel to the 2017 hit “Bar Boys,” where Khan earned critical acclaim for her portrayal of a formidable law professor and judge, Justice Hernandez. She won the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Best Supporting Actress, the same awards she got in 2018 from Gawad Urian, FAMAS and PMPC Star Awards.
Khan, originally from Bacolod, has appeared in more than 200 films and television programs, becoming widely known for her kontrabida roles and portrayals of strict authority figures. Her notable film credits include “The Hows of Us,” “T-Bird at Ako,” “Anak,” “Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon,” and “Remington and the Curse of the Zombadings.”
