Vico gets recognition from Ateneo Traditional Awards 2026

PASIG City Mayor Vico Sotto is among eight individuals recognized by the Ateneo de Manila University as part of its 2026 Traditional University Awards.

In a statement on Friday, the university said Sotto will receive the Government Service Award.

“Sotto, who previously authored the Pasig Transparency Mechanism Ordinance as a city councilor, has served as mayor since 2019. He was named an International Anti-corruption Champion by the US State Department in 2021 — the only Filipino among the 12 global recipients.

"Earlier this year, he received a grant from the Bloomberg Global Mayors Challenge. The grant will support Pasig City’s efforts to develop forward-thinking proposals to address critical issues affecting its residents,” the university's statement read.

Sotto graduated in political science in 2011 and finished his master’s degree in public management in 2018.

Other awardees are Rev. Gregory Boyle (honorary degree), Sr. Anita Miranda (Bukas Palad award, posthumous), Jesuit volunteers Cesar and Josefina Villareal Villanueva (Ozanam Award), filmmaker Nicolas Deocampo (Gawad Tanglaw ng Lahi), while the Lux in Domino award will be conferred on former cabinet secretary Chito Sobrepeña (posthumous) and Robert Chan.

The award ceremony will be held at the Ateneo Areté on Nov. 5, 2026.

According to Ateneo, the Traditional University Awards are the institution's highest recognition for individuals and organizations who “exemplify the values espoused by the Ateneo de Manila University,” and the selection was announced through the Office of the President’s memo last Tuesday.

“Chosen by the Board of Trustees, this year’s awardees are a group of individuals who exemplify excellence in their chosen fields,” the university said.
