Victoria Beckham has pushed back on claims made by her estranged son Brooklyn, as the fashion designer insisted that she is not a “pushy parent” in a new interview.
In January, Brooklyn, 27, launched a scathing attack on his parents, claiming that he had been “controlled by a family that value public promotion above all else”.
Appearing on Emma Grede’s Aspire podcast, matriarch Victoria, 52, opened up about how she decides what to make part of “Brand Beckham”, as Brooklyn called it, and what to keep personal.
“Do you know what, I think that our children have had a very different upbringing to myself and David,” she told Grede. “I think the world is also a very different place now as to what it was when they were younger.
“We’ve always tried to protect the children as much as we can. We’ve always been very close; communication is key.”
Mother-of-four Victoria then said that the family were far more “traditional” than many would assume, adding: “Being very close is really, really important to us.
“Ultimately, we want the kids to be hard working, kind. I think that I’ve always wanted to be the best mum that I could be and look after the kids, but I feel that it’s been part of my job to really help them fulfil their full potential. For them to recognise what their sense of purpose is.”

Referencing her son Cruz and his burgeoning musical career, Victoria explained: “Anything that I could do to support him, to encourage and to help him, that’s my job as his mum. It’s never about being pushy or forcing. It’s being there to support.”
The Independent has contacted Brooklyn’s representatives for comment.
The comments appear to be an attempt from Victoria to counter messages shared by Brooklyn, who shocked the world earlier this year with a six-page written statement hitting out at his parents over their treatment of him and wife Nicola Peltz, 31, who he married in 2022.
Brooklyn, who has reportedly not seen his family since May 2025, claimed that he had ”been controlled by my parents for most of my life”.

“I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared… My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”
On the podcast, Victoria – who shares Brooklyn, Cruz, 23, Romeo, 21, and Harper, 14, with husband David, 51, – admitted that parenting adult children was “very different” to younger kids.
“I’m just trying to do the best that I can,” she said.
A particular point of contention for Brooklyn had been the existence of “Brand Beckham”, which he said “comes first” for his parents. “My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else,” he wrote.
But speaking in the interview, Victoria said that this was simply a continuation of the many paid partnerships she and David had done individually – her as a member of the Spice Girls, him as a footballer.
“When David and I first met it was never our intention to start a brand,” she insisted. “People talk about ‘Brand Beckham’; that has happened so organically… That was never something that we, together, even discussed.”
