Going into Vidaamuyarchi, I expected the film to be all about its lead actor. That had been my experience with some of his earlier movies — you know, action-packed, the larger-than-life persona and everything about the movie being tailored to highlight his star persona. But Vidaamuyarchi was a nice change of pace. It does not, mind you, lack for action, particularly in the third act when all hell breaks loose. But it is more understated and an actual movie rather than a mere star vehicle. Let’s go into the story of Vidaamuyarchi, its ending, release date, cast, trailer, director, a brief review, and more.
The film has Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan playing a married couple Arjun and Kayal, who live in Azerbaijan. After 12 years of being husband and wife, cracks are showing in the edifice of their marriage. Their journey together began in a rather fairy tale way. They met at a party, instantly hit it off, fell in love, and married. But now, they are on the verge of divorce.
In their last road trip together in which Arjun is dropping off Kayal to her parent’s home, things go a little sideways. Well, not a little. There is, of course, the aforementioned action, but since this film is an action thriller (with emphasis on the thriller part), it also serves up surprise after surprise.

Vidaamuyarchi story and ending explained: What happens to Kayal?
So what happens during Arjun and Kayal’s roadtrip? Initially, it is pretty smooth… or as smooth a journey of two soon-to-be divorcees can be. Arjun is more unhappy among the two, also because Kayal has had an affair. The revelation looms like an invisible wall between them.
We see flashbacks revealing how they drifted apart after a pregnant Kayal had an accident that caused her to miscarry. And after that, they were never as close as they had been. Arjun immersed himself more in his work, and Kayal became disillusioned with him. It is not that they had fallen out of love, but that warmth they had disappeared.
Cut to the road trip, they almost collide with an oncoming Hummer. They are safe and sound, but it was close and could have ended in tragedy. The Hummer’s driver, a young man, stops smirks, and shows them the finger. We see the vehicle is packed with ruffians like him.
Later, while stopping to fuel up, Kayal enters the convenience store at the fuel station to get medication for her nausea. She does not find it. But she does meet and befriend a Tamil couple Deepika (Regina Cassandra) and Rakshith (Arjun Sarja). Apparently, they own a truck and are travelling on the same route.
Outside, Arjun sees the same Hummer pull over, the ruffians coming out, and being hostile with him for no apparent reason. Still, he keeps his cool. Just when their leader Michael (Arav) appears to strike at him, one of his underlings asks him to let go. He leaves.
Arjun and Kayal also continue on. But soon, their car suddenly comes to a stop. Arjun cannot understand what is wrong with him. Then they see the Hummer again. It is ridiculous, but those men seem to have a bone to pick with them, and for what? Nothing they know of. Then, Deepika and Rakshith turn up in their truck as well, and Kayal happily introduces them to Arjun. They discuss what to do and then Rakshith suggests since Kayal is not feeling well, they will take her to a rest spot, a pub called Jabbar, and will also call to get Arjun’s car towed to a repair shop. Soon after he leaves, Arjun checks the car again and is able to start it. Apparently, somebody had tampered with the vehicle at the fuel station.
He reaches Jabbar, but can neither find Kayal nor Deepika and Rakshith. The locals at the pub are none too friendly and not forthcoming with any information even when he pleads with them. He leaves the place to search for Kayal all on his own. He spots Deepika and Rakshith’s truck and follows. But something is wrong, as the driver of the truck, who is clearly Rakshith, is not stopping — even when Arjun’s car is parallel to the truck. He forces the truck to stop by blocking the way and confronts Rakshith. But “Rakshith” says that is not his name, claims ignorance of what he is talking about, and says that he does not know any Kayal and has never seen his (Arjun’s) face. Also, neither of the women is anywhere in the truck. Arjun stops a passing police car but the policeman is of no help as well. “Rakshith” appears to have valid proof of identity.
So where is Kayal?
Arjun searches for Kayal almost throughout the movie. Eventually, he is captured by Rakshith (it is his real name, after all), Deepika and their goons (the men in the Hummer). So the two groups of people — Deepika-Rakshith and the Hummer men — have been working together all this time. We learn through a flashback that Deepika and Rakshith met in a psychiatric hospital after they were both diagnosed with ailments like antisocial disorder; they are in effect Kollywood’s own Joker and Harley Quinn.
Meanwhile, Arjun is beaten by baseball bats and golf clubs. They taunt him, saying that Kayal has hired them to kill him. Arjun, knowing Kayal, is sceptical of the claim. They say that he should pay them millions in local currency if he ever wishes to see his wife again. He gets the money from the local branch of his bank and is picked up by the Hummer. But the men inside bind him again and refuse to tell him where Kayal is. It is this moment when he loses his temper and it is cathartic to finally witness Ajith flexing his action (and literal) muscles. He uses a knife he purloined from the bank and fights off four men on his own, though stops short of killing them. But Michael escapes. But where is Kayal?
All this time, we learn, that Kayal has been bound and gagged in a secret location. Deepika and Rakshith tried to gaslit her as well by saying Arjun hired them to kidnap and kill her. But she, too, was unconvinced.
What happens at the end?
In the end, Arjun is successful in discovering the headquarters (or what passes for one) of Deepika and Rakshith’s ragtag criminal organisation. Now that he has had enough, Arjun beats men, breaks bones, and even shoots (in the legs) as he approaches Kayal. He reaches, overpowers Michael, and accidentally drops Deepika into a vat of corrosive acid that is kept by her and her husband to dissolve bodies and erase evidence of their murders. She is burnt to death and Rakshith is heartbroken. He fights with Arjun vengefully for quite some time until our hero overpowers him as well. When he shows mercy, Rakshith is disgusted and chooses to be crushed to death by the unforgiving jaws of an industrial crusher.
Arjun finds Kayal safe and sound. They are told by the police that Deepika and Rakshith ran a gang that sold abducted girls and women, and thanks to Arjun, it no longer exists. Arjun and Kayal reunite as lovers and a married couple.
Our brief thoughts
As I stated in the first sentence of the article, Vidaamuyarchi upended my expectations. For the first half or so, it is actually a solid mystery thriller until Arjun finally discovers who is responsible for his and his wife’s troubles. The second half is not at all a letdown, though. You get to witness the classic Ajith, after all.
Vidaamuyarchi is a handsomely mounted movie with beautiful visuals and camerawork. The action, which as I said dominates the third act, is uneven — sometimes great, sometimes ordinary — but by that time you want Arjun to unleash hell on these nefarious people so much that you cheer every punch and kick.
Vidaamuyarchi was one of the most awaited South Indian films of 2025 and it was well worth the wait.
