A recent video showing a Malaysian bus driver engaging in extremely reckless behavior on the highway has triggered a wave of public anger, especially in light of the nation’s recent string of tragic bus accidents. The incident, captured and widely circulated online, highlights growing concerns over road safety and the enforcement of transport regulations.

The footage, shared on June 12, reveals a disturbing sequence: a bus was seen dangerously speeding along the emergency lane before abruptly cutting into the left and then right lane without proper signaling or caution. More shockingly, the driver was seen extending his hand out the window and repeatedly making an obscene hand gesture—a clear sign of disregard for fellow road users.

Even after maneuvering into the rightmost lane, the offensive behavior continued, with the driver maintaining the gesture while operating the large vehicle. The risky driving, combined with the disrespectful conduct, has raised alarms among netizens and the general public, who fear the potential consequences if such behavior goes unchecked.

Public response to the footage has been swift and pointed. Concerns were raised about the potential for such recklessness to result in another highway tragedy, especially as memories remain fresh of previous fatal bus accidents, including the horrific crash that claimed the lives of 15 students.

Calls for accountability were echoed across various platforms, with some urging the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to immediately revoke the driver’s license. Others questioned whether enough is being done to prevent unfit individuals from operating passenger vehicles, suggesting that disciplinary action should be taken before such behavior leads to more fatalities.

Some observers also expressed frustration over recurring excuses offered after accidents—pointing to common explanations like brake failure or technical errors that often surface in post-accident narratives. These critics emphasized the importance of proactive enforcement over reactive explanations.

There were also appeals directed at the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), highlighting the need for firm intervention to ensure such drivers are held accountable before public safety is further compromised.
