PETALING JAYA: A video clip of a teacher allegedly slapping a student during an event in school is making the rounds on social media, drawing criticism from netizens including from another teacher who shared the snippet.
In the 42-second video, the teacher in the video, who is believed to be from a school in Terengganu, was seen speaking to the student before hitting him on the face.
The teacher was then seen berating the student before shoving him aside.
Teacher Fadli Salleh who uploaded the video clip on Facebook said the teacher in question should have reined in his emotions, especially in front of an audience.
He also claimed that the event was attended by representatives from the state government and Tenaga Nasional Bhd as well as the police, although he was unsure if the guests had arrived prior to the alleged incident.
“Even though they are young, they have feelings.”
“We want people to respect us, but such actions will see people get angry with us and lose respect for us,” Fadli said, adding that teachers were now facing criticism from netizens.
Later, another Facebook user claimed that the student was fooling around when the national anthem was being sung, which Fadli described as a “misdemeanour”.
FMT has reached out to education minister, Fadhlina Sidek, for a response.
