This is the moment a historic Miami hotel was reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds.

The planned blast, carried out on Sunday (12 April) on Brickell Key, brought down the Mandarin Oriental Miami hotel in less than 20 seconds. The artificial island sits where the Miami River meets the bay, close to the city center.

The 23-floor property had stood in the upscale neighborhood for 25 years, marking the city's most significant demolition in over a decade. Red and pink smoke bombs accompanied the implosion as crowds lined the waterfront to watch the tower come down.

Developer Swire Properties says the demolition clears the path for its next ambitious project, The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Miami.
