VIETNAM’S privately run low-cost carrier Vietjet recently announced strategic milestones at the Singapore Airshow 2026 as part of a bid to bolster its presence across the Asia-Pacific region, including the Philippines.

Vietjet said last week said that it had signed aircraft engine and financing agreements with Pratt & Whitney and Pacific Investment Management Co. (Pimco) totaling around $6.1 billion.

It made the announcement at the Singapore Airshow as it launched the Asia-Pacific Aviation Financial Hub, to be located within the Vietnam International Financial Centre in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietjet in December 2025 launched daily flights between Manila and Ho Chi Minh City to meet rising travel demand on both sides of the route.

The budget carrier said it ordered 44 additional GTF-powered Airbus A320neos, including 24 A321neos and 20 A321XLRs, bringing the airline’s total orders to 137 GTF-powered aircraft.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in July this year, with Pratt & Whitney providing engine maintenance under a 12-year EngineWise Comprehensive service agreement.

Vietjet received its first A321neo aircraft in 2018 and currently operates 42 GTF-powered A321neo aircraft. Prior to the latest orders, it had already committed to acquiring 93 aircraft of this type.

The GTF engine delivers up to 20-percent lower fuel consumption and a 75-percent smaller noise footprint compared with previous-generation engines, supporting the carrier’s long-term strategy to enhance connectivity while helping drive regional economic growth.
