KUNAK: Several villages in the district were hit by rising waters after hours of heavy rain on Tuesday night.
The affected areas included Kampung Simpang Empat, Kampung Sungai Langgas, Kampung Sungai Atas and Kampung Getah, mostly in low-lying spots near rivers and drains.
By Wednesday morning, floodwaters still surrounded homes and had also spilt onto some roads, causing concern among residents.
Locals said the recurring problem was due to clogged roadside drains unable to cope with the heavy flow, and urged village leaders and local authorities to act.
District Officer Majaran Osman assured that his office would inspect the sites, while the Sungai Kalumpang Water Treatment Plant temporarily shut operations on Wednesday morning due to high turbidity in the river.
