Many places in Malaysia, especially malls, have adorned their properties with Christmas decorations this year.

Unfortunately, sometimes they cause disruptions due to unforeseen circumstances.

Christmas tree catches fire

Onlookers were shocked last night when a large Christmas tree outside a hotel caught fire at around 7pm.

A video about the fire was posted by @thereknees625 on TikTok and has since gone viral.

The burning tree drew attention as smoke filled the surrounding area, particularly affecting commuters using the walkway.

Speaking to WeirdKaya, the OP named Dennis Kong said the thick smoke caused inconvenience to passersby and especially to those using the bus rapid transit (BRT) system.

The walkway was also engulfed with smoke, making it challenging for commuters to navigate the area safely.

He also shared that workers were seen standing around the tree but didn’t appear to take immediate action to extinguish the fire. “It doesn’t seem like they were trying to stop it,” he remarked.

I wish the situation could be handled well. The fire truck could’ve came faster to immediately stop the fire instead of just letting it burn all the way down.

“When the fire truck arrived, it was too late as the tree was completely burnt down. However, I’m grateful that no casualties were reported,” he said.

Netizens expresse concern

They commented on how incasdecent light is not a good choice when it comes to adorning the tree as it overheats quickly

“Incandescent lights can overheat if left on for long periods of time. Combined with our hot weather, it’s a bad combination,” said a netizen.

“Maybe the lights had some issues. Think carefully; we humans need to show some tolerance.”

“As mentioned many times, we shouldn’t use incandescent lights as they pose a fire hazard,” says the top comment.
