The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has taken swift action following a viral video showing several Muslim men cross-dressing at an entertainment event. The incident sparked widespread public reaction, with concerns raised over its alignment with Islamic teachings and Malaysia’s cultural values.

JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee addressed the matter in an official statement on the department’s Facebook page, expressing concern over the discomfort the incident caused among the public. He stressed that such actions should not be repeated and urged all parties to remain mindful of religious sensitivities.

"This should not have happened, and we hope similar incidents will not occur again," he stated, emphasizing the importance of respecting religious and cultural norms in Malaysia.

As part of its response, JAKIM has contacted the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to assess the situation and ensure that appropriate actions are taken under existing laws. The department is also set to engage with the individuals involved through a closed-door discussion, where they will be advised on the importance of adhering to Islamic guidelines.

JAKIM further urged Malaysians to be considerate of religious and cultural sensitivities to prevent similar controversies in the future. The director-general highlighted that while Islam acknowledges entertainment as a source of joy and well-being, it must always be conducted within ethical and religious boundaries.

"Islam is a religion of mercy that recognizes the human desire for entertainment, but it must be balanced with proper etiquette and should not contradict Islamic beliefs, laws, and ethics," he stressed.

The incident has reignited conversations about the balance between personal expression and religious expectations in Malaysia. It has also drawn attention to the role of authorities in maintaining harmony between modern social trends and traditional values.

JAKIM remains committed to fostering awareness and ensuring that entertainment activities respect Malaysia’s moral and cultural framework. The department continues to encourage open dialogue and education to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Authorities will closely monitor the situation, reinforcing their efforts to promote mutual understanding and respect within Malaysia’s diverse society. The department hopes that proactive measures and constructive discussions will lead to greater awareness and responsibility among the public when engaging in entertainment activities.
