Social media users have expressed outrage over a viral video showing individuals allegedly attempting to take jewellery from the body of a Nepal flood victim.
A VIDEO circulating on social media has triggered outrage after several individuals were accused of attempting to take jewellery from the body of a woman believed to have died in the Nepal floods.
The footage, shared by a Threads user, showed an area covered in mud, wood and debris following the flash floods.
In the video, two men appeared to approach the body using a bamboo stick. One of them was then seen holding the victim’s head.
The person who shared the footage alleged that the men were not attempting to rescue or move the body, but were instead trying to take jewellery from the deceased.
“The floods in Nepal claimed many lives, but what surprised me was that some were looking for gold from the victims who died. Where has humanity gone?” the user wrote.
The video drew criticism from social media users, who condemned the alleged act as disrespectful and inhumane.
One user claimed one of the men pulled the victim’s hair while attempting to remove her earrings.
“He pulled the victim’s hair so he could take the earrings, not to get the poor woman out of the area. This act is really disturbing and sad,” the user said.
Another user said the deceased should have been treated with dignity and respect.
“At first I thought they wanted to save the victim, but instead they took her things. Don’t they have humanity?” the user wrote.
Meanwhile, another user said personal belongings found on a victim could potentially assist authorities in identifying the deceased, particularly when the body could not be readily identified.
The user also expressed concern that removing such items could interfere with efforts by authorities and the victim’s family to establish her identity.
