Penang is giving visitors more ways to save this Malaysia Day, with free entry to three heritage sites from 15 to 16 September and free ferry rides for Malaysians on 16 September.
One of the three sites only reopened in July after nine years of restoration and upgrading.
Three Heritage Sites Are Free To Visit
You can visit the Penang State Automotive Gallery, Fort Cornwallis, and the Penang State Museum without paying admission from 15 to 16 September.
The Penang State Museum reopened in July after nine years of restoration and upgrading, with 15 galleries housing nearly 1,200 artefacts. The revamped museum also includes interactive displays, high-definition projections and augmented-reality features.
MyKad holders normally pay RM5 to enter the museum, while children aged five to 12, senior citizens and persons with disabilities pay RM3.
The Penang State Automotive Gallery focuses on the state’s transport history, with exhibits ranging from handcarts and trishaws to motorcycles and cars. Two former Penang Hill funicular trains are also displayed outside the gallery.
Can’t make it on Malaysia Day? Free admission to the Penang State Automotive Gallery and Fort Cornwallis will continue until October.
Free Ferry Rides On 16 September
The Penang Port Commission (SPPP) and Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) are also waiving ferry fares for Malaysians on 16 September as part of the Malaysia Day celebrations and Keretapi Sarong Festival.
The free service applies to trips between Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (PSAH) in Seberang Perai and Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda (PRTU) in George Town, following the existing ferry schedule.
Pedestrians normally pay RM2 per one-way trip, while two-wheeled vehicle users pay RM2.50. Both fares will be waived for Malaysians on the day.
