PETALING JAYA: vivo Malaysia has unveiled has launched the Y31s in Malaysia, introducing a new budget-friendly device that combines a large 6,500mAh battery, military-grade durability and AI-powered features aimed at users who require reliable all-day performance.
Priced from RM1,199, the vivo Y31s is designed to cater to a wide range of users, particularly those who spend long hours on the move, including blue-collar workers, commuters and frequent travellers who depend on their smartphones for communication, navigation, entertainment and work-related tasks.
One of the key highlights of the device is its 6,500mAh BlueVolt battery, which vivo says has been engineered to provide extended battery life while maintaining long-term battery health. The company claims the battery is capable of retaining at least 80% of its original capacity after up to 1,600 full charge cycles under laboratory conditions, which could translate to around five years of typical use depending on charging habits.
The battery is paired with 44W FlashCharge technology, allowing users to recharge quickly when needed. vivo said the charging system incorporates multiple safety measures, including overvoltage, overcurrent and temperature protection, to ensure stable and secure charging performance.
In terms of design, the Y31s is available in two colours inspired by Kuala Lumpur’s night scenery — KL Midnight Purple and Glowing Black. The smartphone features a slim 8.39mm profile, weighs 209g and comes with a quad-curved rear design intended to provide a more comfortable grip.
Adding a touch of personalisation is the Dynamic Light notification system, which surrounds the camera module and illuminates for incoming calls, messages, charging notifications and music playback. Users can customise the lighting effects to match their preferences.
Durability is another major focus of the Y31s. The device comes with IP68 and IP69+ ratings for water and dust resistance, allowing it to withstand exposure to rain, accidental spills and challenging outdoor environments. vivo said the smartphone also features a triple-layer water-resistant structure and includes functions such as Wet-Hand Touch and underwater photography, enabling users to continue operating the device even in wet conditions.
The Y31s is also built to withstand physical impacts. According to vivo, the device meets MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability standards and has received SGS Gold Label 5-Star Premium Performance certification for drop resistance. Additional protection is provided by Guardian Glass, which is designed to improve resistance against scratches, punctures and accidental drops.
Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, built on an advanced 4nm manufacturing process. The chipset features an octa-core architecture with clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz, delivering improved performance and energy efficiency for everyday applications, gaming, video streaming and multitasking.
The smartphone is equipped with UFS 3.1 storage technology, which offers faster read and write speeds compared with previous-generation storage systems. The Malaysian variant comes with up to 12GB of dynamic RAM through a combination of 6GB physical RAM and 6GB extended RAM, alongside 256GB of internal storage.
For viewing and entertainment, the Y31s sports a 6.72-inch Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 1,050 nits, providing smooth scrolling and improved visibility under bright sunlight. The display is also TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certified to help reduce eye strain during extended use.
The multimedia experience is further enhanced by a dual-speaker stereo system capable of boosting audio volume by up to 400%, making it easier for users to hear calls, navigation prompts and media playback in noisy surroundings.
On the camera front, the Y31s features a 50MP rear camera and a 32MP front-facing camera. The device incorporates a range of AI-powered photography tools, including AI Erase, which removes unwanted objects from photos, and AI Photo Enhance for improved image quality. Other camera features include Live Photo, Dual-View Video, Multi-Style Portraits and Night Filters.
Beyond hardware, vivo has integrated several productivity and security features into the device. These include AI Captions for real-time transcription and translation, Origin Island for notifications and system updates, and vivo Office Kit for seamless file sharing across devices. Security features such as Private Space and Theft Protection are also included.
According to vivo, the Y31s has undergone extensive hardware and software optimisation and is designed to provide a smooth user experience for up to 50 months.
