vivo Malaysia has officially launched the X Fold5 for the local market and while we got an early hands-on of the device a couple of weeks ago, this marks the actual entry so that everyone interested in it can get a taste of its productivity-first approach.
At first glance, the 4.3 mm unfolded + 9.2mm folded profile makes it competitive in the current market, while the 217g weight makes it easy to handle even when unfolded.
On the visual front, it runs an 8.03-inch 2K+ AMOLED LTPO inner display while the outer cover screen is at 6.53 inches, and both panels are TÜV Rheinland-certified for eye protection and tuned with Zeiss Master color calibration for a true-to-life viewing experience.
Despite its rather “bad choice” of running a last-gen SoC, its camera is still the iconic Zeiss-powered tri-camera setup, with the dual front cameras located on both the inner and outer displays enabling a quick and seamless selfie/video call.
Meanwhile, durability comes certified with IP5X dust resistance, IPX8/IPX9+ water resistance, a carbon-fiber hinge rated for 600,000 folds, and a second-generation Armor Glass that resists scratches and impacts.
Rounding up the device is a rather big battery with strong, fast charge wattage, reliable wireless connection, and a seemingly “optimized” compatibility layer with Apple devices.
