The new operating system will debut in Malaysia on the vivo X500 Series before being rolled out to other X Series devices, followed by selected V and Y Series models.

VIVO has unveiled OriginOS 7, its latest smartphone operating system, with a focus on smoother performance, multitasking, cross-device connectivity and artificial intelligence.

The new operating system will debut in Malaysia on the vivo X500 Series before being rolled out to other X Series devices, followed by selected V and Y Series models.

vivo said OriginOS 7 has been redesigned around three key areas — touch response, motion fluidity and performance under heavy workloads — with the company claiming that the system is designed to maintain its responsiveness over six years of daily use.

At the core of the new system is the next-generation Origin Smooth Engine, which incorporates changes to graphics processing, memory management and system scheduling.

According to vivo, its Ultra-Core Computing technology dynamically allocates processing resources according to demand, resulting in a 10% reduction in app cold-start times and an 11% improvement in app page switching.

The operating system also introduces Memory Fusion, which vivo said improves memory allocation and reclamation. The company claims the technology can increase memory reclamation by 60% and free up to 25GB of additional storage on a 256GB device.

Another component, Dual Rendering, uses a new rendering pipeline and compilation framework that vivo said improves rendering efficiency by 14.4%.

The performance upgrades are also intended to support Origin Workbench, a multitasking feature that allows users to manage up to five active applications within a single task space.

vivo said the feature could allow users to perform tasks such as exporting high-resolution video while referring to notes, browsing content and communicating with others.

The company has also subjected OriginOS 7 to a 72-month anti-ageing test through vivo Lab, claiming the system can maintain its responsiveness over six years of daily use.

More natural animations and controls

OriginOS 7 introduces new animation technologies designed to make interactions feel more responsive and natural.

Origin Animation uses physics-based motion across system interactions, while Fluid Motion allows interface elements to stretch, bounce and merge according to the direction and speed of a user’s touch.

Spring Animation applies a consistent motion profile across system components and applications, while Seamless Interaction is designed to provide smoother scrolling in different directions.

Expanded connectivity across devices

OriginOS 7 also expands vivo’s cross-device connectivity capabilities, including support for selected Apple devices.

Users can pair an Apple Watch to receive notifications and synchronise selected workout and health data with the Origin Health app, while AirPods can connect with battery information displayed through Origin Island and support for Spatial Audio.

Through vivo Office Kit, users with iPad, Mac or Windows devices can transfer files between screens, synchronise notes and continue creative tasks across devices.

The system also provides native access to iCloud-stored photos and files through vivo File Manager, allowing users to browse, upload and download content.

Jovi brings AI-powered assistance

A major addition to OriginOS 7 is Jovi, a personal AI agent designed to handle tasks across connected devices.

Integrated with vivo Office Kit, Jovi can coordinate workflows between smartphones and computers. vivo said users can issue commands such as retrieving a spreadsheet from a computer, summarising its contents and sending the key information to their smartphone.

Users can also schedule tasks for Jovi, such as compiling regular reports or organising files.

Another AI-powered feature, Snap Note, can convert photographs of whiteboards, handwritten notes and presentation slides into editable, formatted documents.

vivo said security controls have also been incorporated into Jovi PC through Jovi Security, which records autonomous actions and requires user authorisation for key steps.

Greater personalisation

OriginOS 7 also introduces several customisation features for lock and home screens.

Wiggle Theme turns personal photographs into interactive liquid-style surfaces that respond to touch, while Glint Theme uses the phone’s gyroscope to create changing light and shadow effects as the device moves.

StickIt allows users to create layered collages using photographs and Live Photos across the lock screen, home screen and Always-On Display.

Pet Pals, meanwhile, introduces interactive digital companions that respond to factors including device movement, charging, music playback and the time of day.

vivo said OriginOS 7 will first be available on the X500 Series in Malaysia, with availability subsequently expanding to other X Series models and later the V and Y Series.

Feature availability may vary according to device model and market.
