I thought the entire vivo V70 series was already launched – but no, vivo decided to release one more – the vivo V70 FE. This phone is aimed towards an even more affordable price point, but is it actually a good phone, though?

To answer that particular question – well, that’s the reason why you’ve clicked on this review!

Performance

Now, let’s talk about the specs and performance first. The new vivo V70 FE uses the new MediaTek Dimensity 7360 Turbo. There are a few things we have to dissect here. First, the Dimensity 7360, while it is labelled as “new” on MediaTek’s website, is practically a Dimensity 7300 rebadge as far as I can tell. Both the CPU and GPU cores and clock speeds are identical.

Secondly, the Turbo word in the name practically doesn’t mean anything other than some special software tuning. Not sure what kind of tuning they have going on, but it’s essentially still the same as the Dimensity 7300.

So, when we look at games and the performance, it’s the same as the Dimensity 7300. For Genshin Impact at the lowest graphical settings, we’re seeing around 30-ish FPS in combat but we can get around 40-ish FPS if we’re only running around. The FPS does fluctuate a lot because the GPU is already at 100% even when we’re not doing anything.

Zenless Zone Zero needs to do shader caching, which means it’ll lag intensely when we’re doing anything for the first time, but it’ll smooth out when we do it the second time. While the frame rate does fluctuate a lot, I’ll say that it’s playable, but it definitely depends on how much we can tolerate.

Wuthering Waves is definitely dropping into the slideshow FPS territory while doing the nest fight, which is to be expected – and once more, it depends on how much we can tolerate it. Driving around is also choppy but I think that is mainly due to the loading speed or the GPU, as there are lots of pop-ins.

We also tested Arknights Endfield – and you can watch that in our full gaming test video for the vivo V70 FE down below. We also talked about the wattage, the temperature, the frame time, all of that stuff in that video too.

Battery life

Now, let’s talk about the battery life. The vivo V70 FE comes with a 7,000mAh battery, no idea what’s the Wh value since it is not published anywhere. Wh is a much better metric to measure battery capacity, watch our other video at the top right corner there to know why.

Anyway, at the highest resolution setting, the vivo V70 FE can last for around 26 hours and 11 minutes. That’s a really good result and I can confirm that there is no battery drain issue like the other MediaTek Dimensity 7300 smartphone that we reviewed recently. Actually, I’m not sure if that video is published when this video is up… doesn’t matter anyway.

Charging speed

As for the charging speed, the vivo V70 FE comes with a proprietary 90W charger in the box. We’ll talk more about these chargers in a future video but let’s just talk about this phone in particular first.

The vivo V70 FE, with the default settings, can charge from 15% to completion in about 60 minutes. It held on for another 10 mintues before it officially declared itself to the “fully charged”, that’s why there’s a flat line at the end there. Also, the temperature graph is kinda wonky with these teeth-like shape.

Then, we can head into the settings menu and turn it up to the fastest charging speed possible. This doesn’t actually speed up the charging cycle that much. It just cuts down by like 2 minutes or so, but the temperature is a whole lot higher than without turning on the fastest charging speed possible. My advice is – just turn this off. It’s not worth the extra temperature just for 2 minutes of faster charging.

Switching over to our USB-PD PPS charger, it’s safe to say that we don’t have to use vivo’s own proprietary charger to get fast charging. Yeah, the temperature is high here because I did turn on the fastest charging option in the settings menu for this test. It takes around 42W at most and overall, takes about the same time to charge from 15% to completion. It’s great since we don’t have to rely on their own proprietary charger and cable.

Screen

As for the screen, the vivo V70 FE comes with a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2800×1260 pixels, and goes up to 120Hz refresh rate. Pretty typical in today’s standard, I’d say.

Now, despite the vivo V70 FE being a lower-midrange phone, it can still output a maximum brightness of around 1900 nits and down to 2.14 nits minimum. It has a really good range, in my opinion.

For this phone, we just headed into the settings menu and turned it up to the Bright color profile so that we can test the true potential of this screen. It covers virtually 100% of both sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts, while maintaining a low average ΔE number. That maximum ΔE number seems to be an outlier.

Overall, I’d say this is a fantastic screen for a mid-range device like this. Some other higher-end phones wish they had a screen like this.

Software

As for the software – this is something that I won’t talk much about as it is using OriginOS 6 and we’ve already talked about this in other past vivo smartphone reviews before. Overall, really good skin and works well with the Dimensity 7360 too, as there are no lags or anything like that.

I do want to complain about the bloatware as there are just way too many of them. I finished setting up the phone but it continued downloading more apps that I never told it to install. So, we have to manually remove them. The Hot Games and Hot Apps are especially egregious, by the way.

Camera

Now, let’s talk about the cameras. The vivo V70 FE has two cameras, and I personally didn’t take much pictures with this phone. I mean, the cameras are… kinda weird. The main camera looks really washed out but has good clarity, but somehow the ultrawide angle camera has good colors but is not clear. It’s just weird that way.

Design

All of the things that we went through are packed within this design of a phone. It’s pretty nicely designed, I’d say. It’s clean, minimalist-looking, and also serves its function well. I personally will say this silver color is the most boring of all, and the blue color looks a whole lot better.

The purple color has this kind of flowy design like some food coloring is diffusing into a glass of water – and I find it to be calming to look at. However… if we’re slapping a case on the phone, then this doesn’t matter.

A few more things to mention

And a few more things to mention about the vivo V70 FE. It has a USB 2.0 port at the bottom and also a dual SIM card slot, pretty typical. There is also an IR blaster – which is located at the top of the phone.

Should you buy the vivo V70 FE?

So, should you buy the vivo V70 FE? Well, at the price of RM1,599, it’s definitely a little on the high side but it is still quite acceptable, given the memory crisis that we’re all going through (even though it seems to be alleviating).
