This year, Malaysia isn’t just opening its doors, it’s sharing its heart..

As a Malaysian, I’ve always felt our country is full of stories waiting to be discovered. And now, with Visit Malaysia 2026, the world is about to see what we’ve always known: Malaysia is vibrant, warm, and endlessly welcoming.

It’s About People, Not Just Places

For me, the best part of VM2026 isn’t just the beautiful beaches or iconic skylines, it’s knowing that every visitor who comes to our country is supporting real people and real communities, the makcik selling kueh at morning market and the uncle char kueh teow at pasar malam.

Every meal at a hawker stall, every night in a homestay, every craft bought from a local artisan doesn’t just create memories for tourists. it helps our families, our friends, and our neighbors thrive. It’s tourism that gives back, that preserves our culture, and that makes me proud to call Malaysia home.

Hotels and Local Businesses Are Stepping Up

Even our hotels are sprucing themselves up for 2026. According to The Star, hotels across Malaysia are upgrading amenities, repainting rooms, and improving cleanliness and safety to ensure visitors have a comfortable stay.

Staff are also receiving training under programmes like Mesra Malaysia to maintain high hospitality standards. It’s exciting to see because it means tourism growth is raising standards for everyone, creating jobs for Malaysians, and improving experiences for both locals and visitors. When tourists come, they’re not just exploring Malaysia , they’re helping our communities shine brighter.

States Are Leveling Up Too

It’s not just hotels , states across Malaysia are also preparing for VM2026. In Perak, 34 tourism projects have been implemented ahead of 2026 to enhance attractions, improve facilities, and make travel experiences smoother for visitors.

Meanwhile in Sarawak, Tourism Malaysia has outlined four key promotional focuses, including strengthening domestic marketing, boosting digital engagement, themed promotions, and collaboration with industry partners. These initiatives aim to highlight Sarawak’s unique natural and cultural offerings, from orangutans to traditional cuisine, ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach local communities directly.

Creative Campaigns Bring Malaysia to Life

It’s not just hotels and states stepping up, even creative partnerships are helping promote Malaysia in fun, memorable ways. For example, a new Kuala Lumpur edition of Monopoly was launched at KL International Airport, turning the city’s landmarks like the Petronas Twin Towers, Merdeka Square, Bukit Bintang, Kampung Baru, Jalan Alor, and Chinatown into collectible property tiles.

This initiative, developed in partnership with Tourism Malaysia and Winning Moves UK, is part of the VM2026 campaign to encourage travellers to explore KL’s culture, lifestyle, and iconic spots one square at a time. It’s a playful way for visitors to connect with Malaysia while also supporting local tourism.

Tourism With Purpose

It’s more than sightseeing. It’s growth we can feel in our own communities. Small business owners, young chefs, local guides, they all get a chance to shine. Every visitor becomes part of our story, helping Malaysia grow in a way that feels meaningful, sustainable, and human.

Pride, Connection, and Opportunity

VM2026 reminds me that tourism isn’t just numbers on a board. It’s real lives being touched. It’s our culture being celebrated on a global stage. And it’s a chance for us to show the world who we truly are, a country that welcomes with open arms, treasures its people, and grows together with every visitor who chooses to explore our home.
