A VOCATIONAL college student died on the spot after the motorcycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a car along the Senai–Desaru Expressway in Kota Tinggi late last night.

The victim, identified as Intan Darwiena Abdullah, 20, was a student of Kolej Vokasional ERT Azizah in Johor Bahru. She sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash at KM67.4 of the highway.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said police received a report on the fatal accident at about 10.40pm.

He said the collision involved a Toyota Vios driven by a 35-year-old local woman and the motorcycle ridden by the victim.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when the car, which was travelling from Bandar Penawar towards Johor Bahru, lost control, entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with the victim’s motorcycle.

“As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist sustained serious bodily injuries and died at the scene.

“The car driver complained of chest pain and is currently receiving treatment at Kota Tinggi Hospital,” he said.

Supt Yusof added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. - January 8, 2025
