European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed her support for the Baltic nations of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania following recent drone incursions.
"Europe stands in full solidarity and unity with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania," von der Leyen said, after meeting with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Estonian President Alar Karis and Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
The commission is "stepping up our support," she said. "When Baltic States are being tested, Europe as a whole is being tested."
The region is receiving assistance through the EU's rearmament fund and other support payments, von der Leyen said.
"We will also work on bridging capability gaps, improve information-sharing across borders and early warning capacity," she added.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania border Russia or its ally Belarus, and have recently witnessed several drone incursions as Russia's war in Ukraine continues.
During attacks, several misdirected Ukrainian drones entered the airspace of the Baltic States and in some cases, crashed.
Kiev was using the drones to attack targets in north-western Russia, Moscow said, claiming Kiev was using the Baltics to launch attacks against Russia, which the three Baltic countries and Ukraine have denied.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are close partners and supporters of Ukraine. The governments in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius have provided military, financial and humanitarian support to Kiev.
The Baltic leaders on Tuesday reiterated their support for Ukraine.
