SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 — The Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) first introduced over a decade ago is an initiative by the state government to care for the elderly Selangor residents.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari said the incentives listed under the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang initiative allow recipients to enjoy a RM100 voucher during their lifetime, as well as a RM500 bereavement benefit.

“The previous programme only offered death benefits which the recipients cannot utilise in their lifetimes,” he said in a Facebook post.

The initiative was introduced in 2008, specifically for seniors aged 60 years and above.

It allows registered members to receive a RM100 birthday gift voucher and a RM500 bereavement fund.

Through this year’s state budget, approximately RM27.5 million has been allocated for the programme’s continuation.

During the introductory ceremony of 22 Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) parliamentary candidates last night Amirudin, as the state chairman, said the SMUE will be extended to cover the whole country should PH win the upcoming 15th general election.
