VP Sara seeks dismissal of impeachment complaint

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday sought the dismissal of the impeachment complaint filed against her for being constitutionally infirm.

Through her legal team led by Michael Poa, Duterte submitted her reply to the four Articles of Impeachment transmitted by the House of Representatives to the Senate sitting as Impeachment Court.

"It is always one of our prayers (dismissal of the charges). There are infirmities," Poa said in a press briefing.

The Vice President's counsels said the allegations against her "fall short of the threshold."

"For these reason, the Vice President respectfully submits that the Articles of Impeachement suffer from fatal constitutional, procedural and substantitve defects," Duterte's camp said.

"They fail to satisfy the standards required by the Constitution, and accordingly should be dismissed," her legal team said.
