Veteran cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, who had not said a word in public since he had defected from the Aam Aadmi Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party about three weeks ago, has kicked up a storm after his first political social media post this evening.

He put a news video on his X account regarding the alleged kidnapping of a four-year-old girl at Kurali in front of her grandparents and commented, “What’s going on in Punjab. I urge @DGPPunjabPolice to see this matter and help the family". Though the kidnapping incident appears to have been linked with matrimonial dispute and pending custody case of the child, Bhajji’s post took an entirely different dimension.

Soon, US-based author and blogger replied to his post writing, “Bhajji, before lecturing Punjab, maybe ask your new political family why ordinary people are crushed under inflation while celebrities conveniently discover new ideologies overnight. I urge the govt to see the matter of rising cooking gas prices, unemployment, collapsing farmer promises and help poor families too."

Bhajji went on to reply the author saying, “Kya baat hai sardar ji. Ok mean to say what ever is happening in that video is right? Chalo I hope it doesn’t happen one day with ur own family. Get up and stand up for the right thing. It’s not a matter of any party it’s a matter of humanity. Waheguru tahanu samaj bakshe“.

This reply from Bhajji had several AAP supporters trolling him with harsh comments. One said, “A rape has occurred with a 3-year-old girl in Delhi, and your BJP is busy protecting that rapist. The way you’re talking about someone else’s family—if they reacted the same way, you’d get angry. Daughters belong to everyone; their voices should be raised by all. Do you have the guts to speak up now, or will BCCI/IPL contracts keep your mouth shut?"

Another one said, “Paaji, if wrong is wrong and humanity is above party lines, then voices should also be raised against the NEET paper leak. Imagine if tomorrow our own children prepare for years and the paper gets leaked. Students deserve fairness and justice too."

A third reacted, “Look at the hypocrisy of Mr Traitor @harbhajan_singh. He is talking about standing up for the right thing whereas he himself betrayed the trust of Punjab people for his own ambitions. You should be the last person on earth to lecture people on standing up for the right thing."

Earlier in the day, Bhajji had reposted his RS colleague Vikramjit Singh Sahney’s post which read, “The Punjab government has again taken debt of Rs 2,500 crore through market borrowings today, even as Punjab’s total debt has already crossed Rs 5 lakh crore. Yet, shockingly, around 7 lakh government employees and pensioners are still awaiting pending DA arrears worth nearly Rs 15,000 crore despite the Punjab and Haryana High Court directing release of these dues."
