KUALA LUMPUR: All parties should wait for an announcement by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul regarding the status of the Subang parliamentary seat held by Wong Chen, said government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said he had no information on any decision concerning Wong Chen’s reported intention to resign as the Subang MP.
“I have no information on any decision. Wait for the announcement by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker. For any parliamentary seat, we have to wait,” he told reporters after attending the Safe Internet PIBG Convention 2026 for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur here today.
Johari had earlier confirmed that Wong Chen had expressed his intention to resign as the Subang MP during a meeting between the two on Thursday.
However, Johari did not disclose whether Wong Chen had formally submitted a resignation letter, as circulated on social media, or the reason behind his reported intention to step down.
Speculation over Wong Chen’s possible resignation emerged after he uploaded a letterhead from the Subang Parliamentary Service Centre addressed to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
Wong Chen, who has held the Subang seat for three terms, did not provide further details but said he would issue a media statement on Monday regarding the letter and his meeting with Johari.
