Wan Kuzain scored a free kick in Malaysia’s 4-0 win over Laos, calling it a dream moment after travelling over 30 hours.
KUALA LUMPUR: A free kick goal that contributed to Malaysia’s 4-0 thrashing of Laos in a Group B match of the 2026 ASEAN Cup at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras, last night was described by Wan Kuzain Wan Ahmad Kamal as a very special moment.
The Harimau Malaya midfielder based in the United States said his sacrifice of travelling for more than 30 hours was worth it when he managed to realise his dream of scoring his first goal for the national squad.
“It’s amazing to score for your country in my second cap, like a dream. If I’m still asleep don’t wake me up right now.
“I think he (Laos goalkeeper) thought I’m going to cross it so why not? This opening turned into a special moment and I’m glad it went in,” he said when met after the match yesterday.
The Sporting JAX player also hopes to continue to be given the opportunity to play in the next match to prove his ability to contribute to the team.
“We’re going to have fun…Thailand and Malaysia have long history so I’m glad to play my part of it in the near future. It’s going to be a great game.
“That’s what I’m looking for flying 30 plus hours and I knew its not going to be right away dealing with jet lag, sleep deprive, new teammates, the camp and I would be happy just to get five to 15 minutes or 90 minutes. I’m happy to play my role and continue my journey with Malaysia’s football,” he said.
Malaysia currently lead Group B with six points, followed by Thailand and Myanmar who have collected three points each while the Philippines and Laos have yet to collect any points.
Harimau Malaya opened their 2026 ASEAN Cup Group B campaign with a narrow 2-1 win over Myanmar at Thuwunna Stadium, Yangon last Saturday and will travel to Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok to face seven-time champions Thailand this Saturday.
Only the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
