Commuters are bidding a bittersweet farewell to Cantik, a calico cat affectionately known as the unofficial “station master” of the Wangsa Maju LRT station, after she was officially retired following more than a decade of daily presence.

For over 12 years since around 2014, Cantik became a familiar sight at the station, often seen near the ticket turnstiles greeting commuters. Her calm behaviour and photogenic nature made her a local favourite and a viral figure on Malaysian social media, with many commuters jokingly referring to her as the station’s “real manager.”

Health concerns prompt community rescue effort
In late May 2026, regular commuters noticed signs that the elderly stray’s health had begun to decline, including inflamed ears and fur loss.
Concerned for her condition, a commuter eventually brought Cantik to a veterinary clinic. She was diagnosed with an ear infection, skin condition and low blood sugar.

Adopted and now living a “retirement” indoor life
Following the diagnosis, the situation gained attention online, with many urging that the senior cat be given proper care after years living around the busy station environment.
A rescuer later stepped in, coordinated with station management, and formally adopted Cantik. She is now undergoing treatment and living indoors in a safer environment.
While commuters have expressed sadness over her absence, many have also welcomed her “retirement,” saying she has earned a more comfortable life after years of becoming a beloved part of daily LRT routines.
