Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan dismissed claims that it is offering travel incentives to Sabah voters living outside the State, warning the public that the circulating flyers are fraudulent.
Its Secretary-General, Datuk Loretto Padua Jr, said the party was alerted to flyers on social media alleging that Warisan is providing financial assistance for return travel to Sabah for voters casting their ballots on Nov 29.
“I confirm that Parti Warisan is not providing any travel fare payment incentives for voters outside Sabah to return to vote on Nov 29,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
The flyers, which feature a photograph of party president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, allegedly instruct applicants to send copies of their MyKad and bank account details via WhatsApp to a specific number or to scan a QR code.
Loretto said such incentives would clearly violate the Election Offences Act 1954, describing the circulars as slander intended to mislead the public and implicate Warisan in electoral wrongdoing.
He also urged the public, especially Sabah voters, to be cautious of such flyers, particularly those requesting identity card numbers, bank account details or QR code scans, which are typical tactics used by scammers to steal personal information and savings.
