Warisan has identified GE15 candidates, including for state seats: Shafie

PENAMPANG – Warisan appears to be all set for the 15th general election, having identified its candidates, including for state seats.

The Sabah-based party’s president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said state seat candidates were also identified in addition to those for federal seats, in the event a state election is also held with the national polls.

However, Shafie did not say whether Warisan would be contesting in all the federal seats.

“I already have it (the list of candidates’ names). I have informed all divisions and they have forwarded their lists. I have identified all 26 divisions’ candidates and for the state assembly.

“Yes, we have also identified candidates for the state constituencies, we cannot look for parliamentary (candidates) alone. We don’t know whether, they will dissolve the state assembly, but at least we are prepared,” said Shafie after the opening of Warisan’s annual general meeting at KDCA Hall here today.

Sabah last held its state election on September 26, 2020.

Shafie also put talk of a “big tent” among opposition parties in Sabah on the back burner but still expressed hope Warisan could cooperate with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

The Senallang assemblyman had previously extended an invitation to PBS to work with Warisan.

Meanwhile, Shafie refused to comment on the jailing of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for corruption, adding that parties must respect the decision of the Federal Court, which upheld his conviction and sentence.

“We must respect the decision of the court and accept its decision whether it is good or bad. The judiciary system is one of the four core pillars of the country, other than the monarchy, executive and legislative,” he said. – The Vibes, August 27, 2022
