PARTI Warisan has announced two candidates who will contest the upcoming by-elections for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and the Lamag state constituency.

The party named Warisan Supreme Council member Mazliwati Abdul Malek as its candidate for the Lamag seat in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, while former Sukau assemblyman Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman will contest the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency.

Warisan deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking said Mazliwati is a leader who understands the needs of Lamag residents and brings relevant experience to the role.

“In addition, she is capable of addressing issues related to the state administrative system, enabling her to become a strong voice that can elevate the interests of Lamag in the state assembly,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Darell said Saddi would draw on his 12 years of experience as a state assemblyman to use Parliament as a platform to advocate Sabah’s rights at the federal level.

“In addition, he will ensure that the voice of the people of Kinabatangan is carried firmly, with integrity and consistency,” he said.

Darell added that Warisan is contesting both by-elections with a firm commitment to its longstanding struggle and political principles.

“That is, a party that remains faithful to its principles, steadfast in its mission to save Sabah and to provide a clear, consistent political direction grounded in the mandate of the people,” he said.

He said the party would continue to be guided by its core agenda for Sabah, which includes defending the state’s rights and autonomy, strengthening the local economy, safeguarding the well-being of the people, practising clean, transparent and people-centred governance, and building a fair, inclusive and sustainable future for all Sabahans.

Darell said the Lamag and Kinabatangan by-elections are ultimately about principles, leadership and the direction of the parties contesting the seats.

“Warisan has never compromised on its struggle, and both of our candidates reflect that commitment to the state of Sabah,” he said.

Warisan also urged all eligible voters to fulfil their democratic responsibility on polling day, which has been set for 24 January, in the interest of a better future for Lamag, Kinabatangan and Sabah.

Nomination day for both seats is scheduled for this Saturday, ahead of polling on 24 January. - January 5, 2025
