SIPITANG: Warisan Sipitang Division Chief, Abd. Aziz Taip, claims requests by Kampung Gelila Jaya residents in Padas Damit, Beaufort for urgent repairs of the dilapidated suspension bridge were being ignored by GRS leaders.
The villagers have submitted a request for the repair of this suspension bridge, which serves as the main route connecting Gelila Jaya to the main road, to the Lumadan and Sipitang MP.
“After receiving no response, the villagers decided to repair the bridge themselves through gotong-royong (community effort), using only coconut tree trunks.
“Imagine villagers forced to use coconut trunks as replacements for rotting wooden planks, he said in a statement.
