Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Supreme Council member Justin Wong urged Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor not to make conflicting statements on attracting foreign investments to Sabah.

In a statement Monday, Justin said Hajiji’s statement that Sabah received RM33 billion in investments last year contradicted the answer given by Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, in the Dewan Rakyat on March 28.

“Zafrul said Sabah recorded investments worth RM11.5 billion in 2022, as opposed to the RM33 billion announced by Hajiji on Jan 23 and reiterated by him (Hajiji) during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Sabah on Feb 28.

“According to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Sabah recorded RM12.4 billion in approved investment in 2019.

“This demonstrates that the Warisan government’s performance is better compared to GRS, which recorded an investment of only RM11.5 billion, as revealed by Tengku Zafrul.

“We welcome investments for the benefit of Sabah, and we believe the economy has begun to recover after the Covid-19.

“But Hajiji should not issue statements that give the false impression of success by him and the GRS Government when, in fact, the GRS’ performance remains low in comparison to 2019,” Justin said.

Justin said as Chief Minister, Hajiji should not make assertions without concrete evidence because doing so would reflect poorly on Sabah’s top leaders.
