Life will always throw us curveballs, but how we deal with those setbacks is what matters.

This attitude is best exemplified by this Malaysian couple who made sure their daughter celebrated her birthday happily despite being hospitalised.

Recently, a TikTok video showing a couple organising a makeshift birthday party for one of their six children, Deja, has gone viral.

The 3 minute 53 second video has around 1.6 million views as of the time of writing.

According to the father speaking in the video, the family wanted to celebrate Deja’s birthday. However, this was difficult as children were not allowed into the hospital ward.

Determined not to let their little girl’s special day go to waste, the family decided to throw a birthday party for Deja at the hospital carpark.

They used a tarp sheet as an improvised picnic blanket and brought a Frozen-themed birthday cake and bubble tea drinks.

Meanwhile, little Deja, who was with her mother in the hospital, was told that she would not be able to celebrate the occasion with her siblings.

Little did she know that that was the surprise all along!

When Deja and her mother reached their ‘picnic site’ at the carpark, the four siblings welcomed Deja with loud screams of her name.

It was heartwarming to see the children envelop each other in a group hug.

Then, as the family settled down on the tarp sheet and Deja recovered from the shock of the surprise, it was all smiles as her father wished her a happy birthday and the family sang her a birthday song.

From there, conversations flowed, and before long, the night had come to an end.

Although the children left with heavy hearts, it is precisely because they had so much fun together that leaving becomes difficult.

As the author of Winnie the Pooh, A.A. Miline, says, “How lucky (one is) to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

We hope Deja makes a full recovery soon!
