Watch: Fast food restaurant collapses as 7.8 earthquake hits Philippines

A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines on Monday morning (8 June), killing 16 and injuring 200 people.

In a video widely circulated on the internet, a Jollibee outlet is seen collapsing as the tremor hit the Mindanao region.

Authorities said several people have died due to falling debris, a landslide and the collapse of damaged structures.

Students at Deped Mahayahay Elementary School were performing their morning flag ceremony when the ground started shaking, forcing the children to stay low and scramble for cover.

The roof of the shed behind the kids fell as everyone ran to save themselves.

Emergency officials in the Philippines continued to assess damage and casualties after the earthquake.
