Detectives have launched a murder investigation into her death after she was found with serious injuries at her home.
Devon and Cornwall Police said they are hunting a “white male” suspect after the former Tory minister’s body was discovered on Thursday morning.
Her death was announced by her management on Friday morning. The force is expected to confirm more details at a press conference at 4.30pm.
Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson urged witnesses to come forwards, saying the investigation is moving at “significant pace”.
“We are deploying all of the necessary resources to find out exactly what has happened and to locate the person responsible who we believe to be a white male.”
Detectives from Devon & Cornwall Police are expected to hold a press conference at 5pm where they are expected to give more details into their murder investigation into Ms Widdecombe’s death.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman will make a statement in Exeter and take questions from reporters.
