The month of Ramadan is more than just fasting – it is a spring of good deeds, devotion, compassion, generosity, forgiveness and repentance.
This is not one of those instances, when this group of singers performed at an iftar ceremony, in the presence of religious school children, who looked rather uncomfortable at what was on display.
The group who were uncomfortable at the performance came from a Tahfiz school, a school specifically established to uphold a tradition of memorising all 114 Surah (chapters) and over 6,000 verses of the Al-Quran, and this did not go down well with netizens.
Seen celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri, when it is still in the early month of Ramadan, dressed in clothing that does not reflect the Muslim faith and dishing it out for the Tahfiz kids to witness, here are some choice words netizens had for the organiser as well as the performers.
“I feel that events like this is very disrespectful (to the month of Ramadan). If you want to have performances like this, do not invite Tahfiz students to join.”
“As organizers, can’t you do any other activities other than performances like this? I pity the kids for having to experience this.”
