THE mechanism for monitoring and auditing additional revenue collected through water tariff adjustments, as pledged by state water operators for infrastructure upgrades, was among the highlights of today's Dewan Rakyat proceedings.
According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament's official portal, the issue was raised by Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN–Tampin) during Minister’s Question Time. He also questioned what action would be taken against operators who fail to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) despite benefiting from the tariff increase.
During the same session, Lim Guan Eng (PH–Bagan) asked the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry to clarify what steps have been taken by the government to realise a 19 per cent tariff negotiation outcome, including concessions offered to the United States.
Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN–Sik) posed a question to the Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding Malaysia's efforts to pressure the international community, particularly the United Nations (UN), to halt ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza.
In the oral question segment, Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera) queried the Minister of Transport on initiatives to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities (OKU) in public transportation. She referenced South Korea's approach, which includes sign language and Braille in public transport systems and announcements.
Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH–Gombak) asked the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development to disclose the number of informal workers in the care economy registered with the ministry, and the government’s strategy in preparing for an ageing population.
Following the Q\&A sessions, members of Parliament are scheduled to continue the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), tabled last Thursday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, introduced RMK13 under the theme ‘Redesigning Development’, outlining Malaysia’s strategic planning framework for the period 2026 to 2030.
This sitting of the Dewan Rakyat is set to run for 24 days, concluding on 28 August. - August 7, 2025
