SANDAKAN: A waterspout struck Kampung Sim-Sim here on Monday afternoon, damaging three houses but caused no injuries.
The incident occurred around 3.30 PM, tearing off roofs as strong winds swept through the coastal village.
The most affected house, located at Jambatan 4, Lot 65, suffered significant roof damage in the kitchen and living room areas.
Two other houses at Jambatan 5—Lot 87 and Lot 79A also sustained damage, primarily to their outdoor roofing structures.
Waterspouts are tornado-like columns of air over water that can cause substantial destruction upon making landfall.
The incident highlights the need for vigilance and preparedness among coastal communities vulnerable to such extreme weather events.
Local authorities meanwhile have urged residents to remain cautious, especially during unpredictable weather conditions.
